Departure: Ålesund Pier

The Art nouveau town of Ålesund is a perfect starting point for excursions in the beautiful surroundings. It is the largest city in the province of Møre og Romsdal and it has a unique setting across several islands streching out into the Atlantic Ocean. Destroyed in 1904 by a devastating fire it is now noted for its concentration of Art Nouveau style.

2

Sunnmøre Museum

You can find a representation of the traditions and life style of this district in the old days. A collection of old houses and boats.

3

Aksla/Fjellstua

From the top of the city mountain Aksla there is a panoramic view of the beautiful town center, the archipelago and the Sunmøre Alps. From Aksla you can walk 418 steps down to the town park.
4

Parken Culture House

It was opened on the occasion of the city’s 150th anniversary in 1998. The decorations were made by a local artist, Ole Lislerud.
5

Tourist Information Centre

6

Art Nouveau Centre

It is both museum and national centre of Art Nuveau. It offers insight into this style by means of authentic interiors and objects as well as temporary exhibitions.
7

Ålesund Church

It was first built in 1855, yet it was just about 50 years before it was destroyed by the fire in 1904. The church we see today was built in a Romanesque style in 1909. The architect was Sverre Knudsen.
8

Norwegian Aquarium (Atlanterhavsparken)

It counts with a great exposition of marine life of the west coast of Norway and the northern Atlantic Ocean. Its main attractions are the penguins, seals and the extraordinary construction of the park immersed in the coast of Tueneset.
